Police: Convicted bank robber arrested while trying to rob another bank

A convicted bank robbery was arrested while allegedly attempting to rob another bank.
Officials say that Fred Meletti was arrested outside the Investors Savings Bank in Cedar Grove Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the FBI says that Meletti and a getaway driver pulled up to the bank with a note that read, “Place money in bag. No dye. No cops. No alarms.” Meletti was swarmed by police while trying to open the door to the bank.
Officials say that the getaway driver Meletti allegedly hired was actually an informant for investigators.
Meletti, 53, was previously convicted in a June 2009 bank robbery in New Jersey. He was sentenced to 120 months in prison and five years of supervised release.
An attempted bank robbery could carry a 20-year prison sentence.
