Storm leaves behind trail of damage in Caldwell

Many residents throughout the Garden State spent Sunday cleaning up after Saturday's powerful rainstorms ripped through the area, including hard-hit Caldwell.
The storms left behind a trail of damage at Caldwell's public parking lot, where dozens of parking spots on the lower level were covered in mud. As a result, the parking lot will remain closed until further notice.
"They were talking maybe a few inches of flash flooding, but they were saying upwards of 4 to 5 inches that we got in that quick time. You could have gone white water rafting.  It was like raging rapids," says Louis Ditaramto, manager of the Pizza & Sandwich Barn.
The powerful storms were packed with heavy rain and lighting that pounded parts of the state, knocked down power lines, toppled trees and created a trail of debris and flash flooding.
Some businesses along Bloomfield Avenue suffered substantial damage.
Ditaramto says about 40 to 50 businesses in Caldwell were impacted by the storm.
 No major injuries were reported.
