Police: Off-duty officer shoots man who fired at him

A Sunday morning shooting in East Flatbush involving an off-duty police officer left a man in the hospital.
Police say a 30-year-old man in a wheelchair fired his gun toward the front of 145 E. 43rd St. around 2:45 a.m. where the off-duty officer was working a private party.
The officer then fired back, striking the man in a wheelchair in the hip.
The man was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition and in police custody.
Police say they found a .38 caliber firearm at the scene.
They also say the man has a criminal record.
Police say the officer was taken to Methodist Hospital for ringing in his ears.
