Residents headed to the Evergreen Cemetery for a walking tour Sunday to learn more about the Battle of Brooklyn.

The battle was one of the first major event's that kicked off the American Revolution. 

Visitors could also view the tombstone of William Howard Jr., a controversial figure in the battle.

Tour guide James Henry says the Battle of Brooklyn was the first battle fought after the U.S. declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776.
