Back to School: Child psychology

Child psychologists say practice makes perfect when working with children and their new school year schedules.
Dr. Manuel Lopez Leon, of Brookdale Medical Center, says children may experience symptoms of anxiety when going back to school or beginning school for the first time.
Leon says there is a lot of anxiety involved in going back to school and it must be addressed carefully.
He suggests parents start early before the school year begins by getting their children accustomed to the new schedule they will have.
Going over a schedule with the child will avoid or reduce anxiety.
He says parents should listen to their children's concerns about teachers, classmates or bullies.
