2nd suspect arrested in B15 bus attacks

Police have arrested a second suspect they believe to be responsible for a series of B15 bus attacks.
Authorities arrested Andrew Chandler, 46, for allegedly attacking two bus drivers. It comes amid a rash of attacks on the same bus line.
Chandler was riding the B15 near Rockaway and Hegeman avenues on Aug. 23 when police say he sprayed an unknown substance at the driver before getting off. Then later that day, they say he went back on a B15 bus and did the same thing, causing the driver and two passengers to go to a hospital for treatment.
Chandler is facing several charges, including assault and reckless endangerment.
Less than a week later, another man threw a can at the driver side window of a B15 bus, smashing the glass. Police arrested Sherrod Jackson, 34, on Thursday in connection with that incident. He was charged with criminal mischief.
Transport Workers Union Local 100 called the latest arrest a satisfying development, adding in a statement, "The B15 is safer today for our bus operators - and for our riders - than it was yesterday. We're going to keep the pressure on and continue to distribute photos of suspects so that there are more arrests like this. No one who assaults a transit worker should ever get away with it."
