A Haitian celebration in East Flatbush at the Wyckoff House Museum Saturday celebrated specific religious traditions and spirits of Haiti.
The Festival Minkoan celebrated the song, dance, drumming and traditions of Haitian Lakou Souvenance.
Organizer Sirene Dantor says she wants to clear up misconceptions of Haitian culture. Vodou, for example, is often associated with spells and witchcraft.
“I like changing like the way the concept people have about vodou,” she says.
She says it's actually a positive way of honoring the natural world.
