Police: Man wanted for attempted deli robbery

Police say a man is wanted for attempting to rob a deli Monday in Belmont.
The incident happened inside the Habibi Deli on East 187th Street.
According to police, the suspect walked inside the store and posed as a customer ordering food. They say the man then went behind the service counter, pulled out a gun and demanded money.
Officials say a 38-year-old employee hesitated, and was then struck multiple times by the suspect with the gun. They say after a struggle, the deli worker wrestled the gun away from the would-be robber and the suspect ran away.
The man wanted is describe as a man in his 20s and was last seen wearing a blue sweatband, a black hooded sweater, dark colored jeans, black sneakers and a black backpack.
The store employee suffered some pain and bruising and was treated and released.
