Bronx native turns troubled past into career helping others

A Bronx native is using his troubled past as a way to help others who are struggling.
Antonio Birch is a case manager and role model at the Doe Fund, a nonprofit that provides job training for New Yorkers battling homelessness, substance abuse or who have a criminal record.
Birch says he spent some time in jail as a juvenile and that's when he finally started to turn his life around. He got his GED and then went on to college. Unfortunately he struggled to hold down a job and eventually found himself homeless.
A mentor told Birch about the Doe Fund and that's when his life turned around.
"It actually helps iron wrinkles out from people's past," says Birch. "It shows them that they can get a fresh start."
Birch helps his clients overcome obstacles and shows that their past doesn't dictate their future.
