A panel discussion at Hostos Community College on Saturday spoke about the health of the Latino community in the city.
Those speaking at the panel included elected officials, doctors, media stars and community leaders.
The purpose of the panel was to discuss the results of a study titled “State of Latino Health in New York City,” which polled Latino patients and doctors. The study exposed the difficulties in access to care and health education facing hundreds of thousands of Latinos living mostly in poverty.
The study was held by SOMOS Community Care, which represents more than 650,000 patients in the state who are largely immigrants.
After the panel discussion, a community health fair offered hundreds of Bronx residents free health screenings, exams, and flu shots.
