Nassau teacher accused of sexually abusing student for nearly 3 years

A former Woodmere teacher has been ordered to stay away from a teenage student he is accused of sexually abusing.
Police say 33-year-old Daniel McMenamin, of Valley Stream, engaged in numerous acts of sexual conduct with an underage girl.
McMenamin was a teacher at Lawrence Woodmere Academy, where he met the student. Nassau police arrested him at his Valley Stream home yesterday and charged him with dozens of counts of rape in the third degree and criminal sex act in the third degree.
Investigators say the alleged abuse started back in November 2014 when the girl was just 14 years old and lasted nearly three years, ending in July.
According to his attorney, McMenamin no longer works at Lawrence Woodmere Academy and is a leave replacement teacher at another school. The attorney was not specific as to which school.
McMenamin pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The judge issued an order of protection for McMenamin to stay away from the victim. His bond was placed at $280,000.
The Lawrence Woodmere Academy had no comment for News 12.
