Jurors will continue deliberating Monday in the murder trial of Oscar Hernandez, a man accused of killing his girlfriend and nearly killing her friend.
The jury deliberated for about an hour Thursday afternoon in the case, and then resumed Friday morning. They asked to rehear a portion of Hernandez's testimony.
Hernandez took the stand in the case this week and gave his version of events. He says his girlfriend, Nidia "Juvi" Gonzalez, and her friend, Brenda Castellano, stabbed each other after getting into a drunken fight.
The prosecution contends it was Hernandez who became violent after learning Gonzalez was cheating on him.
Both women suffered multiple stab wounds. Castellano testified in the trial, and her doctor said she nearly died.
The couple's 6-year-old child was allegedly sleeping in the next room during the incident.
The crime happened in the couple's Bridgeport home in February 2017. Police say Hernandez fled the scene afterward with his 6-year-old daughter.
He was arrested 250 miles away in central Pennsylvania after a high-speed chase and was charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and risk of injury to a child. If convicted, he faces up to 120 years in prison.
The jury has already asked to rehear testimony from the medical examiner and DNA expert when they continue deliberating next week.
