A teacher at P.S. 282 in Park Slope was awarded $10,000 for her efforts in the classroom.
The nonprofit National University System presented kindergarten teacher Nicole Lopez with the money for inspiring and engaging with her students.
Lopez is one of only five teachers nationwide selected for the "Sanford Teacher Award," funded by philanthropist T. Denny Sanford.
Lopez will next enter the national stage of the competition, in which one teacher will be awarded $50,000.
