A Harlem-based bank in Brooklyn celebrated 70 years in business Friday.
Carver Bank was founded in 1948 and expanded to Brooklyn 13 years later.
Bank officials say since the beginning, its mission has been to elevate communities, particularly of color, that did not have access to essential financial services.
The bank takes the money clients deposit and reinvests it into the community.
One organization, the Crown Heights Youth Collective, has received a grant from Carver Bank to keep its food pantry and after-school programs running.
Bank officials say the best part about keeping the bank small and local is that they get to know their customers.
