Police say an elderly man was found dead inside his home Friday afternoon in Sheepshead Bay.
According to police, 77-year-old Vincent Zito was found unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back of his head in his Emmons Avenue home. They say they are considering his death suspicious and recovered a firearm at the scene.
Officials will be combing the weapon for fingerprints and canvassing the area for evidence.
Neighbors say Zito will always be remembered as a good man.
"To even think somebody would do that to a man his age. He was a 77-year-old man – it's hard to believe," says neighbor Joseph Haggerty. "It's a shock around here and then he's got family too, he's got grandchildren."
Officials say no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
