Bed-Stuy day care without heat for almost a week

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT -

A Bedford-Stuyvesant day care went nearly a week without heat or hot water.

Cornerstone Day Care Center was closed last week as parents scrambled to find baby sitters. It came just a week after a judge rule that the Cornerstone Baptist Church could not terminate the center's lease.

Tenants in rent-stabilized apartments above the center say some senior residents fell ill during the outage.

"Rest assured, we are actively upgrading our HVAC system," Cornerstone's pastor said in a statement. "We fully intend, as we have always done, to keep our properties up to code for the benefit of our seniors, children, congregation, and the community we intend to continue serving each and every day for another hundred years to come."

The heat has since been restored to the center.
