A pet-friendly domestic violence shelter has opened in Brooklyn.
PALS Place features cages, toys and food for pets, and room for 100 people.
Opened by the Urban Resource Institute, PALS -- People and Animals Living Safely -- was designed so that survivors of domestic violence, their children and their pets can live together.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 48 percent of victims stay in abusive relationships rather than leave behind their pets.
