Brooklyn officials join East Flatbush community to protest construction of new hotel

Lawmakers and community members rallied at a construction site along Kings Highway on Saturday to demand plans for 5244 Kings Highway be reconsidered.
Councilman Jumaane Williams and Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein lead the fight, saying the neighborhood doesn't need another hotel.
Protestors say a hotel is the last thing they need. They say they'd like to see more affordable housing or other essential developments instead.
Residents also say they could use another affordable supermarket and are upset with how the development is being built.
Local leaders tell News 12 Brooklyn the community hasn't had a say in the process.
The site was open to the street but construction workers were seen closing the gate.
News 12 Brooklyn reached out to the owner, Kings Highway New York LLC and the general contractor, Sandhu Builders One Inc. for response but has not yet heard back.
