A mother is receiving psychiatric help after she apparently left her 3-month-old baby boy at a construction site Tuesday morning.
Workers in Flatbush say the woman walked onto the site at the corner of New York Avenue and Lenox Road around 8:15 a.m. and was cursing and yelling about her baby.
The construction site superintendent says he found the baby, believed to be named Caleb, in the arms of a bystander. Security camera footage of the scene shows the woman collapsing at the site while the child is in another person’s arms.
The superintendent then called 911, and the mother fled.
Police told News 12 that she checked herself into a nearby psychiatric facility. The superintendent says he doesn't believe the mother intended to abandon or harm the baby in any way.
Police say the baby was evaluated at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County.
Investigators say there will likely not be any criminal charges filed against the mother since they believe she was in mental distress. That decision, however, is up to the District Attorney’s Office.
