Victims of traffic crashes, their families and elected officials joined the organization Families for Safe Streets and Transportation Alternatives Sunday at Borough Hall to commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

Organizers say roughly 200 people are injured each day in Brooklyn due to traffic crashes, and that there is a fatal crash every 38 hours.

During the ceremony, the names of victims killed in traffic deaths were read aloud.

Families for Safe Streets and Transportation Alternatives says that it has seen traffic deaths decline since Vision Zero was adopted in 2014. Vision Zero is Mayor Bill de Blasio's plan to eliminate all traffic deaths and serious injuries in New York City by 2024.

It also says traffic crashes are still an epidemic.

Families for Safe Streets and Transportation Alternatives says more work needs to be done to get drivers to slow down.
