Bronx nurse program serves close to 1,000 new moms a year

A Bronx program helps first-time mothers through their pregnancies and the first two years of their babies’ lives.
The Visiting Nurse Service of New York nurse family partnership serves close to 1,000 new moms a year in the Bronx.
First-time mother Ashley Lara, who is part of the program, is visited by nurse Lynette Livington every other week for help with her young son.
The 23-year-old says Livington also helped her throughout her pregnancy and gives her parenting advice.
Livington and Lara say through the program, they've formed a friendship.
