BROOKLYN -

New York City first lady Chirlane McCray announced today that a monument in Prospect Park will honor political trailblazer Shirley Chisholm.

The announcement came today on what would have been Chisholm's 94th birthday.

Chisholm, a Brooklyn native, was the first African-American congresswoman. She was also the first black major party candidate for president.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo revealed a plan earlier this year to bring a new state park to Brooklyn named for Chisholm.
