Thousands celebrate Hanukkah in Grand Army Plaza

The rain didn't stop thousands of residents from gathering at an annual menorah lighting ceremony in Grand Army Plaza Sunday.
A celebration began around 4:30 p.m., and the menorah's first candle was lit around 5 p.m. to symbolize the start of the eight-day Jewish celebration of Hanukkah.
The first candle was lit by Mayor Bill de Blasio.
An additional candle will be lit every night during the holiday at 5:30 p.m. The event will also feature music and gift bags for the kids.
