The NYPD says the three children who were inside of a stolen SUV in Canarsie have been located safely and reunited with their parents.
Police said they were taken to the hospital as a precaution and that they had no apparent injuries.
Earlier, the NYPD said three children - two girls and a boy aged 1, 2 and 8 - were inside a white Acura MDX with the Pennsylvania license plate KSG1481 that had been taken at Flatlands Avenue and East 81st Street. The carjacking happened around 4:20 p.m.
Police said the children and the vehicle were found approximately two hours and 45 minutes from when they were taken. They were found on East 78th Street, about seven blocks from where the vehicle was taken.
Neighborhood coordination officers who found the vehicle asked the children if they were OK, and the 8-year-old told them she had tried to call their father but the suspect took the phone from her hands. The keys were in the car and the car was off, according to the NYPD.
The children’s father had told News 12 that the children’s mother was inside a beauty supply store and he was smoking a cigarette outside the car when the carjacking happened.
The NYPD released a photo of the carjacking suspect and is asking anyone with information to call NYPD Tips at 800-577-TIPS (8477). Police described him as having a dark complexion and wearing a dark jacket, dark clothing with a gray/white hoodie.
