Man found dead in Cranford home gutted by flames

A man’s body has been found after a raging fire ripped through a two-story home in Cranford early Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the home on Hillcrest Avenue around 6:45 a.m.
They say the home was completely consumed in flames when they arrived and that it took multiple units from multiple different departments two hours to get the fire under control.
The man’s body was found on the first floor. His identity has not been released.
Officials believe the man had been trapped inside the home and was unable to escape the house as it burned.
Officials say the home was occupied by just one person.
Union County Arson Investigation officials were at the scene, but the fire has not been called suspicious at this time.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
