Family, friends and fellow firefighters said their final goodbyes to the FDNY firefighter who is believed to have been killed in a road rage incident along the Belt Parkway while on his way to work.
The funeral for Faizal Coto was held at Leone Funeral Home. He was a three-year veteran of the FDNY assigned to Engine 245 in Coney Island.
Coto was found early Sunday morning next to his car on the side of the Belt Parkway near Exit 4.
Some of New York's Bravest saluted him for his service at his wake Wednesday night. Many remembered him as a kindhearted man who was loved by his co-workers.
News 12 is told he was also passionate about music and was an aspiring rapper.
His best friend, who worked with him in his battalion, says their group looks to continue his legacy.
"I want to be like him. We all want to be like him. We all just want to come out of this stronger, and we will come out of this stronger like a family. This is going to be the tightest firehouse on the job there's no question about that and that's thanks to him," says firefighter Joe Romeo.
Police arrested 29-year-old Joseph Desmond, a suspected member of the Latin Kings, on a parole violation in New Jersey. They expect him to be charged in Coto’s death. Police say he has prior arrests for assault and drugs.
FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro called it a “senseless murder.”
“We have a family who has lost their son, their brother. We have a firehouse full of people who lost a very good friend,” he said.
