Students with special needs sing holiday hits for families

Students in Pelham Parkway put on a special winter musical Thursday.
The winter musical is an annual event at the New York Institution for Special Education. Dozens of students from kindergarten through 12th grade with special needs and visual impairments performed a variety of holiday songs.
Kids sang songs like “Hallelujah” and “Let's Sing a Sleighing Song Tonight.” Some students played piano as well.
“It's important not only for the kids but for the adults to see what the kids have been working on," says musical director Naum Shulman. "Music helps with all subjects, even math."
Later in the day, pre-K kids also got the chance to perform.
