An 88-year-old Russian woman was attacked during a Christmas morning home invasion in Coney Island, police say.
They say the incident happened around 7 a.m. on W. 25th Street and Surf Avenue.
Lyubov Faynshteyn's niece tells News 12 that a man entered the apartment after her aunt unlocked the door for a temporary home aide.
Police say first responders were sent to the home because a medical panic device was activated.
"She tried to run away and she had the panic button by her bed. I believe it saved her because he saw her push the button," says the niece.
The victim's family tells News 12 that she has a broken cheekbone as a result of the attack.
Both the victim and family say they do not know if the suspect took anything from the apartment.
Police have released images of the man they believe is responsible for the crime.
