An arrest has been made after a person was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Bridgeport Friday, police say.
The incident happened at Boston and Kent avenues around 10:45 a.m.
Witnesses say a dark-colored Subaru was stopped in the middle of the road to allow a person to cross the street. They say another dark-colored car swerved around the vehicle and struck the person, sending them flying through the air until their body struck the ground about 30 feet away.
The driver of the car did not stop, police say.
The person who was struck was transported to the hospital where they later died, police say.
Just hours after the incident, police say they found the vehicle that hit the pedestrian and placed the driver under arrest.
City Councilwoman Karen Jackson says she is deeply frustrated because people often speed down Boston Avenue. She is vowing to lobby for safety improvements.
"Speed humps can be put in especially on the hill coming down and in the middle section ... and we can also put in a crosswalk," says Jackson.
