Woman critically injured in Coney Island ax attack

A woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after police say she was struck in the head with an ax in Coney Island.
It happened in an apartment at O'Dwyer Gardens housing complex on West 33rd Street around 3:00 p.m. The 53-year-old victim was found bleeding heavily in a fifth-floor apartment, police say.
She was taken to Coney Island Hospital.
Police say a man walked into nearby Police Service Area 1 to turn himself in for the crime. Sources tell News 12 that he is believed to be the woman's son.
So far, no charges have been filed against the man.
Police say they are working to determine whether the attack was the result of a domestic dispute.
