Testing at the University Hospital of Brooklyn revealed a high percentage of legionella pneumophila, the bacteria that causes Legionnaires' disease.

SUNY Downstate released a statement Friday announcing water restrictions for patients and staff. They include using bottled water for drinking.

The statement goes on to say, "While we understand that these actions may cause concern, we want to assure the UHB community that we are taking all appropriate actions to address the matter. It's important to stress that Legionnaires' disease is not spread from person-to-person."

The hospital also says there have not been any confirmed cases of Legionnaires' at the hospital.

People over 50 years old and those with chronic lung diseases or weakened immune systems are the most at risk of contracting Legionnaires' disease.
