Dozens of seniors who rely on the Penn Wortman Community Center in East New York have been left without heat that is desperately needed as temperatures sharply drop.
They say that since there is no heat in larger rooms that can fit more than 50 people, the center has been separated into small rooms with space heaters.
The senior citizens say they're freezing, uncomfortable, separated, can't continue their typical activities and sometimes can't even get their meals because the room is too cold.
Councilwoman Inez Barron is demanding that NYCHA, which is responsible for the property, makes the necessary repairs.
"Do what you should've done weeks ago -- get here, fix the problem so that the seniors can come out and enjoy themselves," says Barron.
NYCHA officials say staff is working to restore the center's heat.
