L train weekend disruptions begin as MTA moves ahead with work
This weekend marks the first of several with L train service disruptions.
The L train will not be running between Broadway Junction and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan so the MTA can make repairs. To get to Canarsie from Manhattan, the route is typically a straight shot along the L, but it now requires several transfers.
According to the MTA, the L train will not be running in the area for the next six weekends.
The complete L train shutdown has been canceled, but the MTA is still moving forward with its long-term reliability improvement work.
The MTA told News 12, "We're keeping our commitment to perform the track, switch and signal replacement work that was always part of the L project, started months ago, and will improve reliability on the line both while the tunnel is being rehabilitated as well as far into the future after the project is done."
Some riders are calling on the MTA to make more trains express on weekends and to increase service, and possibly even reduce prices for those affected by the disruptions.
The service disruptions will continue until mid-March.
