Police say an assistant principal is under investigation after he allegedly beat up a seventh grade student at MS 61 for being late to lunch.
Derrade Moore, 42, was charged with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child after the student, 13, says he blocked him from leaving the cafeteria to go to his next class.

The student then says when he tried to get around Moore, the assistant principal threw him against a table and hit him. He says he was then taken into an isolated room by Moore where he was punched, kicked, and even choked.

The student was sent to the emergency room as a result. The student's mother says both herself and her son are traumatized.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education issued a statement calling the alleged behavior disturbing and that Moore was reassigned away from students pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
