Customer claims Puppy Boutique sold him a sick dog
A customer at the Puppy Boutique in Bensonhurst told News 12 that he bought a sick dog from the store, and wants to see it closed for good.
Stanislav Baev says all he wanted to do was to buy his wife a puppy. But he had no idea that it would bring them so much pain.
Shortly after buying “Diesel” from the Puppy Boutique, he brought his pup to a veterinarian due to a cough.
"He said that he had a kennel cough and this is most likely among careless breeders and puppy mills," says Baev.
Diesel started having problems with his eye and the vet diagnosed him with a congenital abnormality. He's having surgery to remove his eye on Wednesday.
According to online reviews, Baev is not the only one who claims to have bought a sick puppy from the store. The puppy boutique has an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau and two stars on Yelp.
News 12 called the store and spoke with Phillip, who identified himself as a manager. He wouldn’t provide a last name.
"Every pet store is going to have a certain amount of complaints, no matter who you are," he says.
He says in the last 25 years, the store has sold more than a quarter of a million puppies and that these negative reviews represent less than 1 percent of their business.
He pointed to their 3.9 rating on Google and says he wishes Baev came into the store to address the issue instead of writing bad reviews online.
"If it's something that's a congenital defect that turns out to be a birth defect, we will be happy to work with him,” says Phillip.
Baev says it's not about the money. He says there are too many stores selling sick dogs and that he created a petition to close them down.
