‘He just started shooting.’ Uber passenger fatally shot by man on bike

Police are searching for the man who fatally shot a man riding in the back of an Uber Tuesday night.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. in front of 1047 Bedford Ave.
Remaining anonymous out of fear for his safety, the Uber driver spoke to News 12 about the ordeal.
"The passenger came and got into the car and that's exactly when somebody else came out of nowhere and started shooting,” says the driver.
He says he never even saw the shooter, who police say witnesses saw ride up on a bicycle and pulled open the back door of the car.
"I didn't see him, I just heard the shots and I bent over because I was worried about my safety too,” he says.
He says the shooter never said a word.
"There was no argument. He said nothing he just started shooting everything went so fast.”
That driver goes on to say it was over in seconds. Once he realized the passenger was shot, he ran into a nearby business to call 911.
Investigators identified the victim as 26-year-old Jorge Vasquez. They say he was hit in the chest and neck and pronounced dead at the hospital.
"To be honest with you, I still haven't been able to sleep since this happened. I was very scared to be honest with you because that was the very first time I've been involved in situations like this,” says the driver.
The Uber driver was not hurt.
The Independent Drivers Guild released a statement saying in part, "We are shocked and saddened by news of this shooting. It is deeply disturbing. We urge all drivers to use caution and install cameras in their vehicles for their own protection." The guild represents for-hire drivers in New York City.
Police are searching for the shooter who's described as being about 5 feet 5 inches and had on a black-hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
