A Brooklyn teacher received a prestigious teaching award Thursday, in front of her students.

Jasmine Rogers, a fourth-grade teacher at Brooklyn Scholars Charter School in East New York, was given the National Heritage Academy’s annual Excellence in Teaching award.

The recognition is only given to 11 teachers across the country.

"I'm completely overwhelmed. I can't believe it, I can't believe it.,” said Rogers, “I didn't get a chance to say this, but the reason why this is possible is because of everything at the school. We are not alone, remember that, and also just take a chance on these kids and do everything that you can to make their education the best."

Rogers has taught at the school for seven years and is currently working her way toward a master’s degree in math curriculum and instruction at Brooklyn College.

Her students erupted in cheers upon finding out that Rogers received the award.

“All of us really helped for her to win.,” said Hailey Brodus, a student of Rogers. “How come? Because she's the best teacher in the world and everybody wishes to have her."

Rodgers and the other finalists will all receive a plaque and a $1,000 gift card for classroom supplies.
