Affordable housing to serve Bangladeshi community in East New York
Developers say a new building going up on Grand Avenue will serve the area's Bangladeshi community.
What is now a parking lot will soon become a building with 167 affordable housing units, developers say.
Partnered with Bangladeshi American Community Development and Youth Services, Thorobird Companies will take the lead on the city's $70 million project.
The development will include studio apartments as well as units with multiple bedrooms. Amenities include workforce training, medical services, after-school care for students and a ground-level plaza for a farmer's market.
Construction is expected to begin in 2021 and end in 2022. Interested applicants will then be able to apply through the New York City Housing Connect system online and through paper applications.
