Authorities: Woman tries to enter US illegally on watercraft, gets stranded on ice
Authorities say a woman trying to cross into the U.S. illegally from Canada into New York using a personal watercraft got stranded on some ice, and had to be rescued.
The incident happened Wednesday morning, just off New York’s Grand Island.
According to firefighters, the woman, as well as two others, were riding their personal watercraft to enter through New York.
Officials say the other two made it to shore, but the woman did not.
Crews had to use a special rescue raft to go get to her.
All three were looked over by paramedics before U.S. Border Patrol and state police took over.
Grand Island is located on the Niagara River, just south of the Niagara Falls.
