Sources: Deadly teen shooting in Hempstead was gang-related
Wednesday's double shooting in Hempstead that left one 16-year-old dead and another injured was gang-related, sources tell News 12 Long Island.
Nassau County police say shots were fired around 5:45 p.m. in a parking lot between West Columbia and Jackson streets.
At the scene on Thursday, there were shattered windows with bullet holes that were labeled with police evidence stickers.
There's a row of stores that border the parking lot where the shooting happened. Most employees told us they hadn't seen or heard anything, except for one deli owner. He says a group of males ran into his store last night around the time of the shooting; one of them said they had been shot.
Police have not identified the teen victims.
The Hempstead school superintendent says the deceased was not a student of Hempstead High School.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
