The owner of a Park Slope adult shop who grew up in a Muslim household is trying to change perceptions when it comes to sex.
Sid Azmi has no problem talking about sex, despite being raised in a Muslim household.
She says she's breaking the stereotype.

“I grew up in a Muslim household. I don't speak for all Muslim households, but we don't talk about sexuality. I was circumcised at birth. I didn’t talk about sex with my parents until after I was married,” says Azmi.

Azmi says she is talking about sex now, referring to her adult store as an “educated pleasure shop.”

“Most of the time a person will ask me what your best seller is, and I say who cares because sex is personal,” says Azmi.

She didn't start out being a pleasure expert. Azmi's first career was working with cancer patients. Azmi opened the 5th Avenue shop four years ago, hoping to inspire people to get "in touch" with their sexuality and try something new that they might just enjoy.

The shop also sells a wide variety of age-appropriate books for children to encourage parents to talk their kids about their bodies in a healthy way.
Azmi says it's all about starting the conversation and having fun.
