Food Fight: Vaya Modern Mexican

Vaya Modern Mexican is the week two winner of News 12's Food Fight.
The Morris Park restaurant opened on Eastchester Road two years ago, bringing a creative take on a classic cuisine to the Bronx.
"Hard, bold flavors, very fresh, a little different, still maintaining true to the tradition of Mexican food, but just kind of playing with it a little bit and taking it somewhere else," says executive chef and co-owner John Denizard.
The bowls are a big seller featuring rice, beans, guacamole, corn, pico de gallo and topped with your choice of protein.
The flan is another customer favorite.
The Bronx boys behind the business have plans to switch up the menu next week, with new options like tamales and a “mountain of nachos” with chips made and coated in cheddar cheese on-site.

As of now, Vaya is just grab and go, but come this summer, it will be expanding into a full sit-down restaurant complete with a bar in the space right next door.

With the expansion, will come more additions to the menu, like these "24-karat gold tacos" with actual gold on the shell.

“It's to just have fun with our food, trying to make a good memorable experience for our guests the families and friends who come in here,” says Denizard.
