Fire officials say a transformer box explosion caused a car to catch on fire in Bensonhurst Saturday.

Firefighters responded to a call about a manhole fire at 1552 W. Fifth St. Saturday evening. Several witnesses say they heard an explosion before seeing black smoke.

Fire officials say the transformer box explosion also caused the manhole fire. Several homes on the street were without power for a few hours due to the explosion.

No injuries were reported.
