A celebration took place at a Williamsburg church Sunday after a year of renovations.
The Bishop of Brooklyn, Rev. Nicolas DiMarzio, poured oil over the altar as part of the rededication of the restored Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church.
The church says its 100-year-old pipe organ was there since 1930, so a new keyboard and switching was installed. The murals and ceiling were also restored.
The pastor says even though there are many churches that are being destroyed in Brooklyn, he wanted to restore this one in Williamsburg to show that they will continue to be a light in this community.
“I want to make sure that this is a place where people can come to not just to worship god, but to see that god is present in this community,” says DiMarzio.
