Police: 2 hurt in Sheepshead Bay porch collapse
Two people were hurt when officials say a porch at the Sheepshead Bay Yacht Club collapsed underneath them.
Officials say a group of people had the ground ripped out from under them Friday night as the porch they were standing on collapsed.
Police and firefighters were called to the scene on Emmons Avenue around 11 p.m.
As first reported by the New York Post, sources say the crowd had gathered there for a fundraiser for the Circle of Hope Cancer Foundation. One of the victims is a cancer patient.
Police say two victims were trapped by the deck that fell underneath them after the event ended.
One of the victims was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the collapse is unknown.
The Department of Buildings says the Sheepshead Bay Yacht Club has no record of violations.
