Police say a teacher at an East Flatbush school was arrested for sexually abusing an 11-year-old female student.

Police say Daniel Santiago, a teacher at P.S. 244, had been inappropriately touching the girl since February.

Santiago, 29, faces charges of sex abuse in the first degree and acting in a manner to injure a child under 17.

"This teacher was immediately reassigned away from the classroom when we were made aware of this disturbing allegation," Department of Education spokesperson Will Mantell said in a statement. "We'll seek to remove him from payroll as quickly as possible while the investigation is pending."
