Family: Woman nearly decapitated in Bushwick Houses homicide was 2 months pregnant

A man is facing murder charges in connection to Saturday's homicide at the Bushwick Houses.
Police say Jerry Brown, 34, who also lives inside the Bushwick Houses at 8-11 Flushing Avenue, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The arrests come after police responded to reports of an unidentified woman who had lacerations all over her body at the Bushwick Houses early Saturday morning. Police say they were initially responding to a call of another woman, Rivera’s friend. The 21-year-old was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
They say they then found 20-year-old Savannah Rivera dead inside her apartment on the eighth floor of the building.
News 12 is told that Rivera was nearly decapitated.
Police say an ax was found inside the building's trash compactor.
Investigators have not confirmed how the ax is related to the attack, but say it led them to Florama Hardware just four blocks away from the incident.
A manager there says the ax was purchased there about two weeks prior to killing.
Rivera’s family confirms that she was 2 months pregnant when she was brutally killed. Those reports have not yet been confirmed by police.
Rivera's family says they believe Brown was the surviving victim’s boyfriend.
Rivera's aunt is now frustrated and looking for answers.
"We want to know why he did that to her," says Margaret Cruz. "Why he attacked her the way he did."
News 12 is told the 4-year-old of the woman who was hospitalized was found inside the apartment unharmed.
Brown was also brought to the hospital where police say he is under observation.
