Prisoner escapes police custody in Belmont

A prisoner was recaptured Saturday shortly after escaping police custody, News 12 The Bronx is told.
Footage shows the search effort by police choppers in the Belmont skies after a 51-year-old escaped her guard.
Police say the woman was arrested for petty larceny at a Family Dollar on Jerome Avenue. While in custody, she was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital. It was there that she managed to escape her guard.
The woman was later found on the corner of 183rd and 3rd avenues.
Her identity has not yet been released.
