An MTA train conductor was stabbed multiple times by a customer on a subway station platform in Mott Haven Sunday.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. at the Grand Concourse station.

The MTA tells News 12 that 20-year-old Walter Rivera stabbed the conductor multiple times in his abdomen and shoulder during the unprovoked attack.

Officials say Rivera appeared to be emotionally disturbed.

The conductor was rushed to the hospital, and is expected to survive.

The stabbing comes over a week after the MTA says two of its workers had urine thrown on them. They say one of the workers was also punched in the face.

NYC Transit President Andy Byford said in a statement, "I am appalled and outraged by this attack on our conductor, a dedicated Transit employee who was just doing his job, trying to help keep NYC moving. We are very grateful to the NYPD that they caught the assailant. He should now feel the full force of justice for this cowardly act."

Some passengers say there aren't enough people guaranteeing their safety while using mass transit.

Rivera has been arrested and charged. The MTA says assaulting a transit worker is a D-level felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.
