As construction work starts on the Canarsie tunnel project this weekend, L train service will begin to slow down to accommodate the work.
Trains should be running as usual on weekdays, but on nights and weekends, service on the L train will be drastically reduced to accommodate the construction that will be taking place.
L trains will be running every 10 minutes between Rockaway Parkway and Bedford Avenue. Into Manhattan, trains will be running every 20 minutes.
This will avoid inconveniencing the thousands that rely on the L train during rush hour. The MTA says it's adding extra M, G, and 7 train service and bus service to give commuters more options during the times construction is taking place.
Some commuters say they're glad they had time to get ready because it gave them a chance to consider other options.
The MTA will also be running shuttles between the nearby subway lines to help people easily transfer to other stations. They can also sign up for text alerts or call 511 and say 'L train' to get assistance.
